The Forgotten

New Beginnings Are Possible Christian Youth Center has been in operation for 20 years. In 2001 the small ministry was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The desire to share God’s love and “provide urban youth exposed to at-risk conditions in Milwaukee with a Biblically-based moral foundation needed to make healthy choices to become contributing members of the community,” resulted in our current mission: “Transforming young lives in Milwaukee through Christ-centered mentoring.”

It all started with a simple “♪♫♪ Happy Birthday to You...♪♫♪”

In the summer of 1996, His Music, a young men’s choir from Northwestern University paid a visit to St. Charles Place and, unwittingly, planted the seed for what would eventually become New Beginnings Are Possible.  While performing for the children, the musicians discovered it was one of the children’s birthdays.  They circled the young boy and serenaded him with the “Happy Birthday” song.  Overwhelmed with joy, the boy cried; he later divulged that no one had ever sung “Happy Birthday” to him before.  His confession was a providential message from God to the leaders who were present that the children in our community lacked more than the basic physical needs of food, shelter, and clothing. They, also, lacked the emotional necessities--love, attention, and kindness.  These leaders saw the need to help our youth to think about the infinite possibilities of tomorrow--the radical potential of a new beginning.  Imbued with this revelation, six area pastors formed New Beginnings Are Possible.

As a result of God’s grace, hard work, key partnerships, volunteers, donations, and a dedicated board of directors, New Beginnings Are Possible has evolved into the organization it is today–a two-fold ministry that has NBAP Christian Youth Center as the hub of its operation and an ongoing outreach ministry to St. Charles Youth and Family Services. What began with a simple song has been transformed into a valuable and viable ministry whose sole aim is to help make the impossible a reality--to help create new beginnings.
